color inspiration : bright & muted
i really like this tea towel from Avril Loreti's Modern Home ... it combines a bright color with it's muted counterpart in a great lattice pattern

library love...
i love the idea of having a library in my home... being surrounded by books is comforting in a way and makes me feel smart and sophisticated so i've been exploring library treatments for a small space and found these that i love!

Handmade Home : Farm House Edition : Shopping!
time for an update on our farmhouse... i'll post more photos of the actual place's progress later but for now, i wanted to share one of the great places we've been shopping for the new house... the fun part is finally going to begin! DECORATING! so we checked out a place called Bluegrass Green, where they sell environmentally friendly building supplies...
i picked out some paint swatches (will share later) from a brand called Yolo that boasts ZERO V.O.C... also checked out some of the tile they carry that are made of recycled materials
Matt investigated wood-burning stoves, dual-flush toilets, and he priced insulation made out of old recycled jeans and denim clothing (COOL!) called Bonded Logic ... we found the staff here to be very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful so we will be back soon to make purchases since our electric inspection is scheduled for this week!!!!...once that's done, walls go up and we'll hit up Bluegrass Green again!Friday, November 11, 2011

spooky lighting...
i love this chandelier & this chandelier from the 1920sfound at Route 11 Vintage
i am such a dweeb when it comes to lighting... i am so particular about the perfect light- shape, amount of light it puts out, function, the way it fits with a room, color... i'm so particular that when i'm shopping for a lamp, i often get discouraged with the selection and go home to a dark room yet again because i just won't buy it unless it is PERFECT for the space it is going in... my problem with lamps that i typically find while shopping, is that they all look the same-cookie cutter lamps-i like something different that nobody else has so i've been experimenting with making my own lighting solutions...photos to come soon, but for now just enjoy these...

brainstorming livingrooms...

if you've been reading lately, you know that renovations are well underway on our farm house...i am so looking forward to the day when we have some drywall hung so painting and decorating can begin!... there's a lot more that goes behind the walls of a house than i ever knew so it's going to be awhile before my blank slate is ready for decorating... but in the meantime, i'm dreaming of the possibilities and becoming a HUGE fan of the RUE zine (issue five is where i nabbed these inspiring livingrooms) Monday, September 26, 2011

pondering color : risky colors that work...

i feel like it's always a little risky to throw a bunch of color together in one room...what if they clash? ... equally risky is choosing one color with major personality, like a mustard orange-yellow, to put on the walls... such a color could be overpowering...somehow though, i love both of these rooms with risky paint colors... someone please help me make colors work like these do (of course Martha can do it)...
